Piano Lessons

ISM Member

Have you always wished you had learned to play the piano, or wish you had continued childhood lessons?

Do you have a child or teenager who is interested in learning the piano?

Are you already a pianist but feel there are issues preventing you from progressing further?

If so, you can be confident that Helen will tailor her approach to your specific needs, creating a warm and supportive environment for your growth as a pianist and musician whatever your age or stage.

Helen is qualified to help you work towards graded exams up to diploma level and has extensive experience with the following examining boards: ABRSM, Trinity, LCM and MTB. She is happy to give consultation lessons to students with upcoming exams and can also give help with GCSE and A level performances and compositions.

Helen teaches Theory, Practical Musicianship and Jazz Piano up to Grade 5 (ABRSM).

Teaching for exams is only a part of Helen’s work, however, as she believes that being able to engage in music-making should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age or level of innate ability. Learning to play the piano is valuable for its own sake as well as showing proven benefits both to mental health and cognitive development and Helen’s emphasis in her teaching is always on the joy of making music!

Most of Helen’s lessons take place in her home in Gosport, Hampshire, where you will play on a new Yamaha C1 grand piano but online lessons are also offered should you prefer.

Lessons can be weekly, fortnightly or just occasionally according to your needs. Weekly and fortnightly pupils pay in advance for half term blocks (6-8 weeks). Helen offers a free trial lesson before you make a commitment.

Piano Meet-Ups

Helen organises regular ‘meet-ups’ where pupils can play to their parents (or each other, in the case of adult students) in a relaxed environment. Playing is always followed by refreshments and a chance to chat!

Covid 19

Since the start of the pandemic Helen has been maintaining a 2 metre distance from pupils while keeping the door and window open for air-flow. Hand sanitiser is always available and the piano wiped down after each pupil. She is more than happy to wear a mask if requested and is equipped to give online lessons should a pupil need to isolate.

Helen is up to date with safeguarding procedures and holds an enhanced DBS certificate.
